Charge!

Drawing, 2006
Painting, 2023

A series that started whilst I was living in London, during which I repeatedly visited and sketched the painting The Battle of San Romano by Paolo Uccello at the National Gallery. The grid of the maces, the linear perspective, the charging cavalry, the many angles, lovely, big, victorious.
Later I returned to these sketchesretrieving the movement grid, finding in paint and colour, the scream of the harshness of battle.
